Why are Halloween costumes marketed to women so trashy?

I want to know why the vast majority of Halloween costumes marketed to females over the age of ten look as if they’re about to appear in a porn vid.

    if you’re a cat…you’re a sl**ty cat
    if you’re a nurse…you’re a sl**ty nurse
i could go on, but seriously i guess it is the one night a year you wont be frowned upon or really judged for dressing that way b/c its almost expected.
    pretty sad though.
they get to unleash their inner hoe for a night!

srlsy guys I dont understand why girls use halloween as an excuse to dress super slutty?! where did that come from lol america is going down the drain next thing u know girls are going to be wearing thongs and bras as costumes

  • Jonas Gurl says:

idk mostly cuz halloween is the only time on the yr they can dress as sl*ts i wish they would have scary costumes for us

  • SarahKayy says:

    to the love ninja:
thats what they sell in the store so what else are we supposed to do?
which brings me to the real question.
i don’t know why thats all they have at the stores.
maybe it’s because thats what sells.

  • KK says:

Halloween is just an excuse to dress slutty, unlike everyday wear.

  • Sam says:

Because, the women who still wear halloween costumes after ten are mostly in their highschool college days. Half of them are anorexic so they fit into the teenage slutty costumes. And of course we all know Halloween is the day for sluts.

  • Courage says:

Because men are doing the designing of the costumes. And women are buying them thinking that it somehow empowers them instead of belittling them. Because some stupid teenagers LOVE to wear something that makes their parents cringe. Because through the "empowerment" of not being taught to sew, many women are stuck with buying their costumes. Because women think that if anyone says something like "boy, that makes you look trashy" it’s not a problem with the costume, but with the person making the comment.

Halloween is a good excuse to dress in a way that you secretly want to, but is not socially acceptable. I would like to wear funny hats and capes in my day-to-day life. I don’t because people would think I was a nut case. On Halloween it is okay.

Those costumes of for people who have no imagination.

For a fraction of the price you can go to Value Village and put together a costume with used clothing that is 1,000 times cooler, more vintage, and more imaginative. I was just shopping at the VV today and I saw a blood red prom dress for $5. Add a black wig and some vamp teeth and you just spent $15 on the best vampire costume any party will see.

Better yet, spend a whole $10 on a wedding dress, roll around in the dirt and wear a grey haired wig. Bam! Zombie bride. And you just helped the store save some poor pregnant bride from wearing an 80’s lace N pearls wedding dress nightmare.

Another year I bought green fairy wings and found the cutest green skirt and top, paired with a wig I already have = Forest Fairy. ($10, I swear).

And, I just spotted a Hooters t-shirt there today! Perfect for a guy.

It’s pretty easy to put a costume together with a little imagination.

Halloween costumes marketed to women are trashy because those women are buying them. The costumes are in high demand since so many women find Halloween a good excuse to be their hidden trashy side and to feel free to do something out-of-character. However, I do wish there are more normal (?) Halloween costumes for women. I’m a fairy-tale loving, romantic type of girl and it’s sad that I don’t see many of those princess costumes outside of the ones for little girls.

Also, I live in New England and I’ve spent most of my Halloweens freezing and I’m wearing jeans and a jacket. I don’t know how other women can stand wearing those skimpy outfits in the cold.
