How can you make bug proof paper mache?

I want to make some outside Halloween Decorations for a museum, and would like be able to keep them from year to year.

  • HurdyGurdy says:

If you varnish it that should keep the bugs from eating it.

  • kittyrogers says:

Papier mache’ is really NOT used for outdoor decorations. It isn’t substantial enough to hold up (even if varnished) through wind and rain.

  • Veronica says:

If I were you I’d use plaster-impregnated cloth, then wax it (just melt wax over the piece, then make it soak in with a blowtorch). I made some plaster breasts a while ago (solid plaster, though), waxed them, and hung them outside and left some in puddles, and they survived.

    Good luck!
