Does anyone know any recipes for pumpkin pie using a jack-o-lantern pumpkin instead of a cooking pumpkin?

It is after Halloween and i have a giant uncut, unused pumpkin taking up space in my living room. I want to get rid of it, but i don’t want to waste it, so i decided to make it into pie. Problem is, you have to use cooking pumpkins to make pumpkin pie, not Jack-o-lantern pumpkins, Does anyone know a recipe for pumpkin pie that you could use a Jack-o-lantern pumpkin for?

Oh my God! It’s okay to use regular pumpkins! In fact, I think that regular jack-o-lantern pumpkins taste better than canned. Just make sure you peel it and boil it, then mash it up. Use any old pumpkin pie recipe, its the same. All you do is just add however much pumpkin as the recipe asks.

i wouldnt use it. wont be sweet

jack o lantersn are not baking pumpkins. They are cultivated for carving and decorating, and that’s about it. Use a Fairytale pumpkin for cooking.

  • Cheryl Hughes says:

you can use a traditional pumpkin pie recipe with your jack o lantern pumpkin. You will have to use something to sweeten the filling and also you should probably take the filling and put it into a food processor before adding spices or sweeteners to it.

Your best bet would be to add brown sugar and extra pie spices to get the flavor right.

You can use your jack o’ lantern pumpkin you just have to add about 25% more sugar. I made one this weekend and it is fantastic. You use the same recipe so that’s not a problem. I used the recipe that was in the pattern book.
